Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin persuāsibilis.
Etymology: < classical Latin persuāsibilis persuasive, convincing < persuās- , past participial stem of persuādēre persuade v. + -ibilis -ible suffix. Compare Middle French, French persuasible persuasive, convincing (c1370 in an isolated attestation; subsequently from 1587; now rare), able to be persuaded (1546, now rare), Spanish persuasible persuasive, convincing (c1530 or earlier), able to be persuaded (1592 or earlier; now frequently in sense ‘floating’ (of voters)), Italian persuasibile plausible, persuasive (1551), able to be persuaded (a1573; now rare or literary).With the form perswaisable compare -able suffix. With persuasibleness n. at Derivatives compare earlier persuasibility n., and later persuadableness n. N.E.D. (1905) gives the pronunciation as (pəɹswēi·sĭb'l) /pəˈsweɪsɪb(ə)l/.
