Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin perspicuitās.
Etymology: < classical Latin perspicuitās transparency, lucidity, quality or fact of being self-evident, in post-classical Latin also penetration, insight (5th cent.) < perspicuus clear, evident (see perspicuous adj.) + -tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix). Compare Middle French, French perspicuité transparency (c1390), ability to penetrate to the truth through that which obscures it (end of the 15th cent.), clarity or sharpness of ideas or style (1538). With sense 3 compare also perspicacity n.
