单词 personeity
释义

personeityn.

Brit. /ˌpəːsəˈneɪᵻti/, /ˌpəːsəˈniːᵻti/, /ˌpəːsnˈeɪᵻti/, /ˌpəːsnˈiːᵻti/, U.S. /ˌpərsəˈniᵻdi/
Forms: 1800s– personeity, 1800s– personëity.
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: person n., -eity suffix.
Etymology: < person n. + -eity suffix, perhaps after corporeity n.Apparently coined by Coleridge (see quot. c1816-20), probably to avoid the connotations of the word personality as applied to a human being or to one of the persons of the Trinity (see personality n. 1a, 1b).
Now rare.
That which constitutes a person or (esp.) God; personal or divine essence; (in weaker sense) personality. Also concrete: a being (esp. God) having the nature of a person; a personage. Now chiefly with reference to Coleridge's use.
