释义 | phocenicadj. Chemistry. Now historical and rare. phocenic acid n. a fatty acid obtained from the oil of porpoises and dolphins, subsequently identified with isovaleric acid. ΚΠ 1837 W. T. Brande in Todd's Cycl. Anat. & Physiol. II. 234/2 When this oil is saponified, it yields..a peculiar volatile acid..termed phocenic acid. 1873 J. L. Smith Mineral. & Chem. 247 I am more inclined to believe phocenic acid, as this acid is found in the oil. 1948 A. W. Ralston Fatty Acids i. 19 Chevreul isolated an acid which he termed ‘phocenic acid’ from dolphin jaw oil, and this acid was subsequently shown to be isovaleric acid.
