Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin pharmacopolium.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin pharmacopolium place where medicines are prepared or sold (a1540) < classical Latin pharmaco- pharmaco- comb. form + -pōlium (in e.g. thermopōlium thermopolion n.). The origin of sense 2 is unclear; perhaps Byron intended pharmacopoeia n. 1.
