Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Latin. Partly a borrowing from Greek. Etymons: Latin Phīdiacus; Greek Φειδιακός.
Etymology: < classical Latin Phīdiacus and its etymon Hellenistic Greek Φειδιακός of or resembling the work of Phidias < ancient Greek Φειδίας , the name of Phidias (see Phidian adj.) + -ακός -ac suffix. Compare earlier Phidian adj.
Now rare.
