Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; originally modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: Latin Pharaon- , Pharao , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin Pharaon-, Pharao Pharaoh n. + -ic suffix, originally after German pharaonisch (1774 or earlier). Compare post-classical Latin Pharaonicus (c1080, c1265 in British sources), French pharaonique (1535 in Middle French as pharaonicque in la captivite pharaonicque , denoting the captivity of the children of Israel in Egypt). Compare earlier Pharaonical adj.
Of, relating to, or of the nature of a Pharaoh or the Pharaohs; Pharaoh-like.
