单词 phantasiast
释义

phantasiastn.

Brit. /fanˈteɪzɪast/, U.S. /fænˈteɪziˌæst/
Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin. Or (ii) a borrowing from Greek. Etymons: Latin phantasiasta; Greek ϕαντασιαστής.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin phantasiasta a Docetist who held that Christ's body was only a phantasm, not a material substance (6th cent.), or its etymon Byzantine Greek ϕαντασιαστής (recorded in plural ϕαντασιασταί ) < ancient Greek ϕαντασία fantasy n. + -αστής, suffix forming agent nouns; compare Hellenistic Greek ϕαντασιάζεσθαι to be presented to the mind. N.E.D. (1906) comments on sense 1 ‘also called [in Latin] Phantasiodocetae, [in Greek] Φαντασιοδοκηταί’, but this has not been verified.
