单词 phanerogamia
释义

Phanerogamian.

Brit. /ˌfan(ə)rə(ʊ)ˈɡamɪə/, U.S. /ˈˌfænərəˈɡæmiə/
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin Phanerogamia.
Etymology: < scientific Latin Phanerogamia (1814 or earlier) < phanerogamus (see phanerogam n.) + -ia -ia suffix1, after Cryptogamia n. Compare French phanérogamie, singular (1821 or earlier), German Phanerogamie (1820 or earlier). The scientific Latin term was probably originally a singular noun like Cryptogamia , but the English word has usually (perhaps always) been taken as a plural, by analogy with zoological terms like Mammalia n., which are plural nouns (compare etymological note s.v. Cryptogamia n.). For a Latin plural form Phanerogamiae compare:1847 W. E. Steele Handbk. Field Bot. p. vi The acknowledged division of plants into those with stamens and pistils, Phanerogamiæ, and those without, Cryptogamiæ.
Botany.
One of the two major divisions of plants, consisting of those having easily visible reproductive structures (flowers or cones) and comprising the angiosperms and the gymnosperms; (also phanerogamia) plants belonging to this division, phanerogams, spermatophytes. Cf. Cryptogamia n.In modern plant classification Spermatophyta is the preferred term for this division.
