单词 petits paquets
释义

petits paquetsn.

Brit. /ˌpɛtɪ ˈpakeɪ/, U.S. /ˌpɛdi pɑˈkeɪ/
Forms: 1800s petit pacquet (rare), 1800s– petits paquets.
Origin: Apparently a borrowing from French. Etymon: French petits paquets.
Etymology: Apparently < French petits paquets, literally ‘little packets’ ( < petits , plural of petit (see petit adj.) + paquets , plural of paquet : see packet n.), although this is apparently not recorded in dictionaries of French in these senses; with sense 1 perhaps compare French le petit paquet (also in plural les petits paquets) denoting a gambling game played with cards (but this is apparently first attested later: 1871).
