On the Thames and the coasts around its estuary: a heavy clinker-built fishing boat, decked forward and aft and ranging from about twelve to nineteen feet (approx. 3.5 to 5.75 m) in length (depending on which part of the river it worked), with a well for preserving the catch. In later use also (occasionally) applied to some other boats working the area.
