Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin perlustrator.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin perlustrator person who travels through and inspects, surveyor (6th cent.; from 12th cent. in British sources) < classical Latin perlustrāt- , past participial stem of perlustrāre perlustrate v. + -or -or suffix.
Scottish. rare.
A person who examines or inspects thoroughly.spec. at the University of St Andrew's: a senior member of the university whose duty is to superintend the discipline of students.
