Etymology: < scientific Latin Petalocera, taxon name (W. S. MacLeay Horæ Entomol. (1819) Introd. 9; < French pétalocères (A. M. C. Duméril Zool. Analytique (1806) 200) < ancient Greek πέταλον leaf, plate (see petal n.) + κέρας horn: see kerato- comb. form) + -ous suffix. N.E.D. (1905) gives the pronunciation as (petălǫ·sĕrəs) /pɛtəˈlɒsərəs/.

Entomology. Obsolete.

Relating to or denoting beetles with lamelliform antennae, constituting the (former) division Petalocera (now treated as the superfamily Scarabaeoidea). Cf. lamellicorn adj.
