Etymology: < peri- prefix + trophic adj., after French péritrophique (E. G. Balbiani 1890, in Arch. de Zool. Expér. et Gén. 8 32).
Zoology.
Relating to or designating a chitinous tube or membrane that lines the gut of many insects and some crustaceans, and is wrapped around faeces when they are expelled.
