Soc. 14 458) < Perca , genus name (see percid n. and adj.) + -o- -o- connective + -morphi (see -morph comb. form). In later use < scientific Latin Percomorpha, series name (D. E. Rosen 1973, in Jrnl. Linn. Soc.: Zool. 53 Suppl. No. 1. 510).
