Etymology: < post-classical Latin pennifer bearing feathers or wings (5th cent.; < penna feather (see pen n.3) + -fer -fer comb. form) + -ous suffix. N.E.D. (1905) gives the pronunciation as (peni·fĕrəs) /pɛˈnɪfərəs/.
Obsolete. rare.
Bearing or producing feathers or feather-like structures; feathered.
