perfrictionn.2

Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin perfriction-, perfrictio.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin perfriction-, perfrictio action or rubbing thoroughly or all over (4th or 5th cent.) < classical Latin perfrict- , past participial stem of perfricāre perfricate v. + -iō -ion suffix1.It is possible that perfrictio may be recorded in classical Latin already in this sense, at Pliny Nat. Hist. 21. 116, but it is perhaps more likely that the word here represents perfrīctiō perfriction n.1, used several times in this work. N.E.D. (1905) gives the pronunciation as (pəɹfri·kʃen) /pəˈfrɪkʃɛn/.
Obsolete. rare.
= perfrication n.
