Etymology: < perf- (in perforated adj.) + in- (in initial n.).Apparently coined by Hallock Card, a philatelist, in Homestead Hobbyist 3 (1944). Stamps with perforated initials were first used in Britain in 1868. In the United States, they were officially endorsed in 1908. The Perfins club was founded there in 1943.
