Etymology: < French pénil (c1200 in Old French as penil ) < an unattested post-classical Latin form *pectiniculum < classical Latin pecten comb, pubic hair (see pecten n.) + -i- -i- connective + -culum -cule suffix. N.E.D. (1904) gives the pronunciation as (pī·nil) /ˈpiːnɪl/.

Anatomy. Obsolete.

The fat pad above the pubic symphysis in a woman (the mons pubis or veneris); (in early use) spec. the upper, hairless part of this.
