1898 Lancet 13 Aug. 448/1 Phenocoll was a powerful analgesic but not so safe a remedial agent. In children and in adults with phthisis it caused alarming cyanosis.

1992 Jrnl. Medicinal Chem. 35 2654/2 N-(4-Ethoxyphenyl)glycinamide (Phenocoll)..has long been known to be available by reduction of the isonitrosoacetanilide produced by reaction of chloral, hydroxylamine, and p-phenetidine.
