Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek περίδρομος.
Etymology: < ancient Greek περίδρομος gallery running round a building, use as noun of masculine of περίδρομος that runs round < περι- peri- prefix + -δρομος (see -drome comb. form). Compare French péridrome (1547 in Middle French).
Classical Architecture. rare.
A gallery; a colonnaded porch or arcade running around a building; the space between the peristyle and the wall of a building. Cf. peristyle n.
