单词 pelong
释义

pelongn.adj.

Brit. /piːˈlɒŋ/, U.S. /ˈpiˌlɔŋ/, /ˈpiˌlɑŋ/
Forms: 1600s–1700s peelong, 1600s– pelong.
Origin: Of unknown origin.
Etymology: Origin unknown. Compare slightly earlier peeling n.2 O.E.D. Suppl. (1982) suggests a connection with Malay pelang striped, but the fabric is frequently described as plain, and was apparently first imported from China. With the second element perhaps compare Chinese lún silk ribbon, silk thread or líng (see peeling n.2).
Now historical and rare.
A. n.
