Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin peregrinagium.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin peregrinagium a pilgrimage (1236; 1424 in a British source) < classical Latin peregrīnus peregrine adj. and n. + post-classical Latin -agium -age suffix. Compare Middle French pérégrinage (early 16th cent. in an apparently isolated attestation). Compare earlier pelerinage n., pilgrimage n.

In early use: a pilgrimage. In later use: a journey; travels. Cf. peregrination n. 2.
