释义 | Peshittaadj.n. Designating the principal ancient Syriac version of the Bible. Frequently as n.: this version.So far as is known the name appears first in Moses Bar Kepha, 813–903. The Peshitta Old Testament was made from Hebrew probably over the course of the 2nd cent. a.d.; the Peshitta New Testament was translated from Greek and represents a revision or recension made early in the 5th cent. of a translation going back, in part at least, to the 2nd cent., earlier forms of which are preserved in the Sinaitic and Curetonian manuscripts. Later versions, more verbally rendering the Greek, were the Philoxenian and Harklean.
