Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek πεντάγωνον.
Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek πεντάγωνον pentagon n.; sense 1 probably arose by confusion with Hellenistic Greek πεντάγραμμον (see pentagram n.), as πεντάγωνον is not attested in this sense. Compare earlier pentacle n., pentangle n.The forms pentageron and pentagoron perhaps show dissimilation.
Obsolete.
