单词 peiser
释义

peisern.

Brit. /ˈpeɪzə/, /ˈpiːzə/, U.S. /ˈpeɪzər/, /ˈpizər/
Forms: Middle English pesour, Middle English peyser, Middle English peysere, Middle English 1600s peiser, 1600s (1800s English regional (Cornwall)) peizer; English regional 1800s– paiser, 1800s– payser, 1800s– payzer, 1800s– pazer, 1800s– peazer (Somerset).
Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from French. Partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: French peiser , peseur ; peise v., -er suffix1.
Etymology: Partly < Anglo-Norman peiser, peisour, peisur and Old French, Middle French peseur, pesere weigher (c1250 in Old French as peseur ; French peseur ; < peser , peiser peise v. + -er , -our , -ur -er suffix2), and partly < peise v. + -er suffix1. Compare Old Occitan pesador (13th cent.; Occitan pesador, pesaire), Spanish pesador (a1270 or earlier), Italian pesatore (a1306), all in sense ‘person who weighs things’.Attested earlier as a surname (e.g. Simon le Peser (1218), Joceus le Pesur (1222)), although it is uncertain whether this should be interpreted as reflecting currency of the English or the Anglo-Norman word.
