Etymology: < Pegu (since 1989 Bago), the name of a city (the ancient capital of the Mon kingdom) and district in southern Burma (Myanmar). Compare Spanish Pegu (1569 as a place name).Compare Dutch Pegus (plural, 1596 in the source translated in quot. 1598 at Peguan n. 1).
