The form Pawnee Pict arises by assimilation to Pict n. and adj.F. W. Hodge Handbk. Amer. Indians (1910) 949–50 records earlier renderings of the French term in English as ‘Freckled Panis’ (1764) or ‘Speckled Pani’ (1797).
