Etymology: < the name of Ivan Petrovič Pavlov (1849–1936; also transliterated Pavloff, Pawlow), Russian physiologist.
1. Physiology. Pavlov pouch n. a surgically separated pocket of the stomach in which a drain to the outside is provided and vagal innervation is retained, used in animal studies of gastric secretion.
