单词 pectini-
释义

pectini-comb. form

Stress is usually determined by a subsequent element and vowels may be reduced accordingly.
Forms: before a vowel pectin-.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin pectin- , pecten , -i- connective.
Etymology: < classical Latin pectin-, pecten comb, scallop shell (see pecten n.) + -i- connective. Compare scientific Latin pectini- (formations in which are found from at least the early 19th cent.), French pectini- (formations in which are found from the early 19th cent.).Found from the early 19th cent. in a small number of biological terms, chiefly adaptations of scientific Latin words (apparently earliest in pectiniform adj.). Combining with second elements of Latin origin. The position of the stress in compounds formed on pectini- varies in accordance with the general stress patterns of English.
