Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek περιστερών , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek περιστερών dovecote ( < ancient Greek περιστερά pigeon (see peristerite n.) + -ών, suffix forming nouns) + -ic suffix. Compare French péristeronique (dated 1875 in Robert Dict. alphabétique et analogique (1986)).The National Peristeronic Society (see quot. 1868) was formed in Britain by the amalgamation of two other societies, one of which was the Philoperisteron Society (founded a1847).
Relating to or concerned with pigeons; suggestive of pigeons.
