Etymology: < perish v. + -ment suffix. Compare Anglo-Norman perisement (a1377 or earlier) and Middle French, French périssement (1587; now only regional (Liège)). Compare also Old Occitan perimen (13th cent.; Occitan periment), Catalan †periment (1585), Spanish perecimiento (a1561).
1. Destruction, damage, loss; downfall.Apparently obsolete in 17th–18th centuries.
