Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin peccāvimus, peccāre.
Etymology: < classical Latin peccāvimus we have done wrong, in post-classical Latin also ‘we have sinned’, 1st person plural perfect of peccāre to do wrong (see peccant adj. and n.). Compare peccavi int.
Used to acknowledge guilt or responsibility (on the part of more than one person) for an error. Frequently in to cry peccavimus. Cf. peccavi int.
