Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Peaucellier.
Etymology: < the name of Charles Nicolas Peaucellier (1832–1913), French engineer, who invented the device in 1864. N.E.D. (1904) s.v. Peaucellier cell gives only the pronunciation (poselye sel) /pəʊsɛljeɪ sɛl/.
Mechanics.
attributive and in the genitive. Designating a linkage consisting of a jointed rhombus of which two opposite vertices are linked to a fixed point by bars of equal length, resulting in the property that when one of the other two vertices is moved to trace out a curve, the other traces out the inverse curve.
