If the subsequent element is an existing word, it is likely to retain its original stress pattern, e.g. pathologico-anatomical Brit. /paθəˌlɒdʒᵻkəʊanəˈtɒmᵻkl/, U.S. /ˌpæθəˌlɑdʒəkoʊˌænəˈtɑmək(ə)l/.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin pathologico-.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin pathologico-, combining form (1650 (in pathologico-medicus ) or earlier), of pathologicus pathologic adj. Compare German pathologisch- (1793 in pathologisch-semiotisch, 1788 (in pathologisch-anatomisch) or earlier), Italian patologico- (1807 (in patologico-clinico) or earlier). Compare also French -pathologique (1755 (in physio-pathologique) or earlier).Found from the early 19th cent. in a small number of formations, exemplified below. With pathologico-histological compare German pathologisch-histologisch (1854 in the passage translated in quot. 1855 ). With pathologico-anatomical compare post-classical Latin pathologico-anatomicus (1789 or earlier), German pathologisch-anatomisch (1788 or earlier), and French anatomo-pathologique (1878). With pathologico-clinical compare post-classical Latin pathologico-clinicus (1831 or earlier).
