Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from French. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin. Or (iii) a borrowing from Greek. Etymons: French pathologique; Latin pathologicus; Greek παθολογικός.
Etymology: < either French pathologique (1552 in Middle French), or post-classical Latin pathologicus (a1564; 1543 in a work title as pathologica , noun), or their etymon Hellenistic Greek παθολογικός relating to disease, relating to the feelings or emotions < παθο- patho- comb. form + -λογικός -logic comb. form. Compare pathological adj.
