单词 pedro sancho
释义

Pedro Sanchon.

Brit. /ˌpɛdrəʊ ˈsan(t)ʃəʊ/, U.S. /ˈpeɪdroʊ ˈsɑn(t)ʃoʊ/
Origin: From proper names. Etymons: proper names Pedro, Sancho.
Etymology: < Pedro, Spanish male forename (see Peter n. and int.) + Sancho, Spanish male forename, perhaps after pedro n.; compare sancho n.3It is possible that reference is being made to the name of Pedro Sancho de la Hoz (1514–47), Spanish chronicler; however the freedom with which (in early use) the name of the game was reversed to Sancho Pedro n. suggests this is probably not the case.
U.S. Cards. Now historical.
A card game like all fours or cinch, in which the nine and five of trumps have their face value and the ten of trumps wins the game. Cf. pedro n.
