Etymology: < peace n. + offering n.In sense 1 after Hebrew šelem (plural šĕlāmīm: Exodus 20:24, etc.); as a term of the Levitical law more fully as zebaḥ haššĕlāmīm (Leviticus 3:1, etc., rendered ‘sacrifice of peace offering’ in the King James Bible, 1611). Compare the etymological note at peace n.
