Etymology: < perfumer n.1 + -y suffix3; compare -ery suffix. Compare French parfumerie (1802 in sense ‘production of and trade in perfumes and other cosmetics’, 1811 in sense ‘shop where perfumes are sold’, 1823 in sense ‘perfumes collectively’), and Italian profumeria (1550 in sense ‘laboratory or shop where perfumes are produced or sold’, 1561 in sense ‘art of making perfumes’).
