Etymology: Partly < perfume n. + -er suffix1, and partly < perfume v. + -er suffix1, perhaps after Middle French, French parfumeur (1528; < parfumer perfume v. + -eur -eur suffix). Compare Occitan perfumador (1503; now perfumaire ), Spanish perfumador (1563 or earlier). Compare perfumier n.2 and parfumier n.
A producer or seller of perfumes. Also: †a person employed to fumigate or perfume rooms (obsolete).
