Etymology: < Italian pasticcio confused affair (1525), pie containing a mixture of meat and pasta (a1535), confused or mixed work, written piece, or discourse (1547), opera or other work consisting of pieces by different composers (apparently recorded only from a1795, but probably earlier; compare also French pastiche pastiche n.) < post-classical Latin pasticium pie, pasty (13th cent.) < pasta paste n. + -icium (see -ise suffix2).In plural form pasticci after the Italian plural form.
