Etymology: < American Spanish pasta paste, short for pasta básica de cocaína basic paste of cocaine (see pasta basica n.). Compare slightly later pasta basica n.

A semi-refined type of cocaine, in the form of a paste that may be smoked in cigarettes, etc.In the manufacture of pasta, the coca leaves are soaked in kerosene and other chemicals, and the paste residue collected and washed, but no other processes (such as purification, etc.) are undertaken.
