Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French parlance.
Etymology: < Anglo-Norman and Law French parlance, parlaunce (also attested sparingly in Old French and Middle French) speech, talk, (literary) style, conversation, discussion, parley < parler parle v. + -ance -ance suffix. Compare post-classical Latin parlantia (c1313 in a British source). With sense 2 compare earlier parliance n.With common parlance compare similar use in Law French:a1481 T.
