Etymology: < parget v. + -ing suffix1. Compare spargettynge (see quot. 1440 at sense 1, and sparget v.). Compare post-classical Latin perjactatio (c1326), and perhaps also Middle French (Tournai) porgetage, porgetement (15th cent.).
1. Plastering; the application of parget or plasterwork, esp. for ornament. Formerly also: †the masking or covering up of a defect (obsolete).
