Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Or (ii) a borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin parergon ; Greek πάρεργον , -y suffix3.
Etymology: < classical Latin parergon (or parergum ) or its etymon ancient Greek πάρεργον (see parergon n.) + -y suffix3. Compare classical Latin parergion or parergium (recorded only in plural). Compare also French parergon (Middle French 1577 in form parergue , 1611 in Cotgrave), Italian parergo (1499 in the passage translated in quot. 1592 at sense 1). Compare later parergon n. and synergy n.
Obsolete.
