Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French pasme.
Etymology: < Middle French pasme swoon, faint (c1272 in Old French in sense ‘cramp’) < post-classical Latin pasmus (4th cent.), variant of classical Latin spasmus spasm n., with loss of initial s-. Compare Spanish pasmo (a1396), Portuguese pasmo (a1559).Post-classical Latin pasmus may show influence of ancient Greek παλμός palpitation (see palmella n.).
Obsolete. rare.
