Etymology: < Turkish paşalık rank of pasha, territory ruled by one < paşa pasha n. + -lık , suffix forming nouns of quality or condition. Compare bashalic(k n., pashadom n.With sense A. compare French pachalik (1787; earlier as pachalaix (1653), pachalic (1690)).
