Etymology: < post-classical Latin paratitlum addition to one of the titles in a collection of legal texts (usually in plural, paratitla ; 6th cent. in Justinian), summary (16th cent.) < para- para- prefix¹ + titulus title n. Compare French paratitles (plural; 1582 or earlier in Middle French).

Usually in plural. A short explanation of one of the titles (title n. 4a) of the Code or Digest of Roman law; an abstract of any section of the Code.
