Etymology: < Anglo-Norman acatour, acatur, akatur (late 13th cent. or earlier), variant of achatour achatour n. (compare Anglo-Norman and Old French acater , variant of achater achate v.). With the β. forms compare -er suffix2. Compare achatour n., cater n.1, and later caterer n.The following use as a surname probably reflects currency of the Anglo-Norman rather than of the Middle English word:1288 in H. T. Riley Memorials London (1868) 23 Joce le Akatur.
