Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: para- prefix1, -plasm comb. form.
Etymology: < para- prefix1 + -plasm comb. form, after German Paraplasma (see paraplasma n.). With sense 1b, compare earlier metaplasm n.2 With sense 2, compare earlier paraplastic adj.
Now rare.
